AM Band Radio - Interference
Sept, 1984
ITEM:
J84/36
SUBJECT:
AM RADIO INTERFERENCE
MODEL:
XJ-S
On XJ-S models only, it is possible that interference can be experienced on the AM band. This will take the form of static noise and will vary with
changes in engine speed. In order to correct this condition, a modification has been made in the radio circuitry, and this change is in effect on all radio
chassis, JAG-106050, which are stamped with a "B" suffix in the serial number.
As previously stated, this problem occurs only on XJ-S. If such a problem is encountered, the radio chassis should be replaced. It is essential that on the
warranty claim form (non-TP dealers), or on the repair order copy (TP dealers), that the explanation for replacement is identified as "AM Interference
Noise - "A" Suffix Chassis".
At this time it is appropriate" to remind dealers that occasionally interference can also be caused by an ungrounded exhaust system on the XJ-S. (Please
refer to Technical Service Bulletin No. J83/34.) A grounding kit, P/N JAG-015017, has been provided to eliminate this condition.
