XJ-S V12-5.3L (1982)
Disconnect the battery earth cable.
Remove the driver's side dash liner securing screws (1 Fig 1)and removethe liner (3 Fig 1).
Remove the centre securing strip and screw from instrument panel surround (1 Fig 2).
Remove the screws securing the side pieces of the surround and remove the surround (2 Fig 21.
Prise of the covers from the securing screw apertures (3 Fig 21 and remove the screws securing the instrument panel to the fascia (4 Fig 2).
Ease the panel forward, disconnect the cable harness and speedometer cable.
Slacken the steering wheel adjustment ring and extend the steering column to its maximum travel.
Manoeuvre the instrument panel clear of the fascia.
Remove the screws retaining the lens assembly.
Disconnect the speedometer angle drive (4 Fig 3).
Remove the screws securing the speedometer mechanism to the panel (5 Fig 3).
Remove the speedometer mechanism (6 Fig 3).
Fit the new speedometer mechanism into position.
Fit and tighten the screws.
Reconnect the angle drive.
Refit the lens assembly.
Fit the panel to the fascia and connect the cable harnesses. Reconnect the speedometer cable.
Fully locate the panel to the fascia, fit and tighten the securing screws.
Fit the screw aperture covers. Refit the panel surround.
Refit the dash liner.
Reconnect the battery earth cable.
