Fuel Pressure Regulator: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION:
Observe all fire hazard precautions detailed in FUEL SYSTEMS / SERVICE PRECAUTIONS, when working on open fuel systems.
Fuel system MUST be depressurized before disconnecting any fuelling component.
Fuel Pressure Regulators And Fuel Hoses
1.
Depressurize fuel system. See: Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Release
2.
Connect fuel pressure gauge. Reference Fuel Pressure-Testing and Inspection. See: Fuel Pressure/Testing and Inspection
3.
Run engine and note pressure.
4.
Disconnect vacuum hose to return (left hand) fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure should increase.
5.
Reconnect vacuum hose.
6.
Stop engine and note pressure. Should hold pressure.
7.
If pressure begins to drop, pinch fuel return line while pressure is dropping. If this stops pressure drop, return regulator is leaking.
8.
If pressure continues to drop, also pinch off fuel feed line to feed (right hand) regulator. If this stops pressure drop, feed regulator is leaking.
9.
If both regulator fuel lines are pinched off and pressure continues to drop, suspect injector leak.
