Subject: Vacuum Hose Reroute Service Action F272
Models: 1982 XJ-S
A limited number of 1982 XJ-S vehicles were delivered prior to a Factory advised rerouting of the vacuum source hose for the dump valve. This can
affect the response in the vacuum-advance capsule under certain extreme conditions.
Upon receipt of the first XJ-S vehicles, please inspect the right intake manifold to see if the inner vacuum fitting on the front end of the manifold has a
rubber blank plug over the end. If the fitting is blanked off, and has a F272 sticker on the right air cleaner, the vehicle is okay, if it is not, please modify
as follows: (engine shut off)
1. Remove blank rubber cap from vacuum tube on bottom of right throttle housing. See Diagram # 1.
2. Remove vacuum hose from inner front fitting right intake manifold. Remove vacuum hose from dump valve. Install new vacuum hose, Part No.
C3S844/17, on the dump valve upper connection and connect with other end to the lower throttle body vacuum tube. See Diagram # 2.
3. Blank off intake manifold inner front fitting.
Submit on a standard warranty, insert F272 in Comments Box 20 - 0.20 hours
