DISTRIBUTOR PICK-UP MODULE REPLACEMENT

MODEL:

XJ6 III AND XJ-S HE

Technical Service Bulletin J80/007 refers to ignition system test for the XJ6 model and TSB J81/029 covers the test procedure for the XJ-S.

Where diagnosis has indicated a failure of the pick-up module, then only the pick-up module should be replaced.

MODULE TEST PROCEDURE

Disconnect the distributor pick-up leads from the amplifier.  Measure the resistance of the distributor pick-up.  The readingf should be between 2.2 and
4.8K ohms for both models.  An incorrect reading indicates a faulty pick-up module.

The following parts are applicable:

XJ-S Pick-Up Module 54402515

XJ6 Pick-Up Module 54401763

The new module shoud be fitted and the air gap set to .008" -014". Due to manufacturing tolerances there could possibly be some variation in the
reluctor teeth.  The widest reluctor to madule gap should not be more than .014".

The following Repair Operations Times are applicable:

XJ-S

Pick-Up Module  R&R  -  0.95 hrs.

XJ6      

86.35.18   

Pick-Up Module  R&R  -  0.70 hrs.
