Shift Cable: Service and Repair

SELECTOR CABLE ASSEMBLY - RENEW

Remove the underfloor catalytic converters.

-

Remove the retaining nut (1 Fig. 1) and release the selector cable from the transmission gear selector lever (5 Fig. 1).

Remove the selector cable securing bolts (2 Fig. 1), and the tunnel securing clip, and allow the cable to hang free. Remove the clip from the cable
and retain for refitting.

Operate the interlock solenoid override latch (2 Fig. 1) (a 'torx' type tool is necessary to remove the plug (4 Fig. 1)) to enable the gearshift to be
moved from the 'P' -park position to the 'D' - drive position.

Remove the centre console veneer finisher panel.

-

Disconnect the battery.

-

Remove the linear switch from the mounting bracket for access, and remove the selector cable to sliding block assembly locknut.

-

Slacken the rear adjusting / locknut, and remove the cable from the sliding block and cable adjustment bracket.

-

Remove the front and rear adjusting / locknuts and washers, and pass the selector cable to the underside of the vehicle through the tunnel sealing
grommet and remove from the vehicle.

-

Fit a new cable from the underside of the vehicle through the grommet, and fit the front and rear adjusting / locknuts and washers positioning them
to the end of their threads.

Note:  The tab washer is fitted with the rear locknut tangs facing outwards.

Position the cable to the sliding block assembly and secure. Ensure the cable grommet is correctly seated.

Secure the cable to the transmission with the bolts (2 Fig. 1), fit and secure the 'P' clip to the tunnel mounting stud.

-

Set the transmission lever to the 'N' neutral position, and connect the selector cable, secure with the nut (1 Fig. 1).

-

At the centre console, adjust the cable adjusting / locknuts until the selector lever positively engages the 'N' position notch, then tighten the rear
adjusting / locknut - ensure the tabwasher engages with the bracket slots.

Refit the linear switch into position, and ensure that the peg engages with the selector sliding block, do not fully tighten the bolts. Adjust the linear
switch.

-

Reconnect the battery.

-

Refit the centre console veneer finisher panel, and the gear selector surround.

-

Refit the performance mode switch and the ashtray.
