Wheel Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
Wheel Sensor
WHEEL SENSORS
At each road wheel a speed sensor and a toothed rotor is fitted. By means of a magnetic core (1) in a coil (2) a sinusoidal alternating voltage signal is
generated by a toothed rotor (3) breaking the magnetic field and inducing voltage in the coil. The frequency of which is dependent on the wheel
speed. The voltage is transmitted to the control module via screened cables. The the air gap between the sensor and the toothed wheel is very
important ie a large gap will generate a low voltage, and a small gap a high voltage.
