Water Pump: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system, then remove fan cowl and torquatrol fan.
3. Remove water pump and air injection pump drive belt.
4. Remove compressor and tandem pump drive belt.
5. Release clip securing bottom hose to water pump inlet spout and pull hose clear.
6. Release clips securing bypass hose from left thermostat housing to water pump and pull hose clear.
7. Remove inlet spout to water pump securing screws, then remove inlet spout.
8. Remove air pump/idler pulley adjusting rod eye bolt and reposition to allow water pump removal.
9. Loosen but do not remove mounting bracket to cylinder block securing bolt.

10. Remove upper and lower front air pump/idler pulley/water pump to cylinder block mounting bolts.
11. Remove harness securing clip.
12. Loosen but do not remove rear pump/pulley mounting bolt.
13. Remove water pump to cylinder block securing bolts. Place a protective board against radiator and remove water pump assembly.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Tighten to specifications.
b. Fill and bleed cooling system.
