XJ-S Convertible (XJ27) V12-60L (1994) | Intake Air Temperature Sensor - Fuel Injection
Intake Air Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation
Effect on Ignition
PURPOSE
By monitoring changes in a reference signal caused by sensor resistance variations, the ECM calculates values for intake air temperature. This input is
factored into Ignition ECM calculations for outputs of ignition timing and to determine ignition retard necessary to prevent detonation.
OPERATION
The sensor resistance varies with changes in intake air temperature. As temperature increases, resistance decreases. Resistance changes are interpreted
by the ECM as air temperature fluctuations.
Component Location
LOCATION
The sensor is mounted in the left air intake snorkel.
