Radio - Noise Interference On the AM Band

Radio - AM Band lnjector Noise

ISSUE:

Injector noise interference on AM radio band due to the routing of the antenna cable along the side of the fuel injection harness. From VIN 184142 a
new cable was introduced (DAC 10528) and the cable routing was changed to eliminate injector interference.

NOTE:
The interference noise is heard loudest while accelerating and will stop during deceleration, fuel cut-out operation.

ACTION:

Re-route the antenna cable to avoid contact with the fuel injection harness on vehicles up to VIN 184141:

COUPE

1.

Disconnect battery negative cable.

2.

Remove passenger side B-C post trim.

3.

Remove passenger side rear seat armrest.

4.

Remove rear seat cushion and squab.

5.

Pull carpeting and foam pad away from the right rear heelboard to expose fuel injection harness, rear electrical harness and antenna cable.

6.

Release ratchet straps securing harness to body (along heelboard).

7.

Working in the trunk, remove antenna cable from motor assembly and any straps which secure the cable to the fender.

8.

Spray cable with silicone lubricant to aid in pulling the cable through the bulkhead grommet.

9.

Slowly pull the cable into the passenger compartment.

REROUTE PROCEDURE:

1.

Route antenna cable from the driver side of the transmission tunnel back to the rear bulkhead. Secure with adhesive tape.

2.

Route cable across seat squab area. Tuck cable underneath existing insulation, and align with electrical harness bulkhead grommet. Secure cable
with adhesive tape.

NOTE:
The antenna cable must be routed through the bulkhead with the electrical harness, NOT the fuel injection harness.

3.

Insert a guide wire through the bulkhead electrical grommet and attach to antenna cable.

4.

Working from the trunk, slowly pull the cable through the grommet.

5.

On pre-1992 MY vehicles, tuck the antenna cable along the right side of the battery tray across silencer box into inner fender. 1992 MY onwards,
follow original routing along fender avoiding fuel injection harness.

6.

Attach antenna cable to motor assembly.

7.

Check radio operation.
