Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1. Remove transmission assembly.
2. Disconnect driveshaft from crankshaft output flange.
3. Install oil seal removal tool No. JD-163, or equivalent, Fig.20 .
4. Align both holes through tool body with threaded holes in crankshaft rear flange. Tighten bolts into crankshaft flange to secure tool (2), Fig.20 .
5. Use punch (1) to penetrate seal (up to 0.079 inch).
6. Remove punch and insert self-tapping screw. Do not tighten screw more than 1 1/2 turns.
7. Repeat above steps for remaining for two remaining screws.
8. Remove two securing bolts, so center bolt can be turning clockwise to remove oil seal.
9. Install new oil seal using tool. Tighten nuts/washers alternately against tool face, 1/2 turn at a time, until seal casing is driven into position.

10. Reverse remainder of procedure to complete installation.
11. Add engine oil as necessary, check for transmission leaks, stop engine and recheck oil level.
