Gearshift Interlock - Manual Override

ISSUE:

Beginning with the 1993 MY all Jaguar vehicles will be equipped with a gearshift interlock system. This prevents the gear lever from moving out of
PARK unless the brake pedal is applied.

If the interlock system does not disengage, (e.g; if the vehicle battery is dead), the gearshift lever can be released manually using one of the following
procedures:

ACTION:

Early 1993 MY XJ6

Use the ignition key to depress the button at the top of the "J" gate, then move the gear lever out of PARK. Refer to Fig. 1.

Later 1993 MY XJ6 and 1994 MY XJ12

Remove the threaded plug at the top of the "J" gate (Fig. 2) with a standard 1/4" blade screwdriver. Push the ignition key into the threaded hole, then
move the lever out of PARK.
