Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Camshaft Position Sensor
Signals from the camshaft position sensors are used to synchronize the ECM to the engine cycle during engine staring. For example, whether the
crankshaft position sensor is indicating an induction or firing stroke. The position of both intake camshafts is monitored to allow the ECM to control the
phase of the intake camshafts relative to the position of the crankshaft. On engines with VVT the camshaft position sensor provides feedback control on
the intake camshaft's position relative to the position of the crankshaft and exhaust camshafts.
