Diagnostic Information

Issue:

This Technical Bulletin has been issued for information only to aid with diagnosing windshield wiper faults.

Action:

Note:

Ensure Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) is loaded with software release JTP 759/36 or later.

Retrieve and record (on the repair order) any logged Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) using WDS. The following Service Instruction will assist in
diagnosing faults with the windshield wiper system.

CUSTOMER COMPLAINT

Record the customer complaint as accurately as possible, such as:

Wipers intermittent - they stop every 20 seconds then have to move the wiper switch "ON"/"OFF"/"ON" to make them operate.

Wipers intermittently operate irrespective of switch position, or

^

Wipers will not stop when turned OFF.

If the complaint is wiper speed variability, identify whether the customer complaint is related only to auto wipe/rain sensor operation, then address the
rain sensing issue accordingly.

INTERMITTENT ISSUES

If the issue is intermittent, ensure that all information relating to the vehicle condition when the fault occurs are recorded i.e.

^

Where/how/when was the vehicle being driven?

^

What were the weather conditions, temperature, how much rain was falling?

^

Are there any other issues with the vehicle that may be related?

This information will assist in recreating the intermittent fault. Refer to the failure modes on the next page to determine corrective actions.

Windshield wipers "stop" and the wiper switch has to be operated to re-start the wipers, or the wipers will not stop when turned "OFF".

Caution

Do not run the windshield wipers on a dry screen for extended periods, as blade wear/damage can result.

On WDS, select "Data Logger", then expand the body system section and select "Front Windshield Wiper Control Mode", "Front Windshield
Wiper Control Select", "Flick Wipe Switch Iput Status", and "Windshield Wiper is in the Park Position" and add to list.
