Brake Caliper: Service and Repair

Removal

1. Remove one wheel nut, mark the wheel relative to the stud, and remove the remaining wheel nuts. Remove the roadwheel and tire assembly.

NOTE:  To avoid loss of fluid, fit a pipe clamp to the caliper feed hose.

2. Unscrew and remove the hose to brake caliper securing banjo bolt (1). Remove and discard the banjo bolt sealing washers.
3. Fit suitable plugs to the brake caliper and hose To prevent fluid loss.
4. Carefully remove the caliper retaining spring (2).
5. Remove the pad wear sensor multi-plug from the retaining clip and disconnect the harness multi- plug (3).
6. Remove the caliper to securing bolt dust caps and remove the socket head securing bolts (4). Remove the caliper from the carrier.
7. Remove the brake pads (5), 
8. Unscrew and remove the carrier securing bolts, and remove the carrier. Remove all brake dust from the carrier and disc.

WARNING:  Brake lining dust can contain asbestos which if inhaled, can damage your health. Always use a vacuum brush to remove dry brake
lining dust, never use an air line.

Installation

1. Align the carrier to the vertical link, tighten the carrier securing bolts to 102-128 Nm (75-94 ft lb).
2. Ensure the caliper piston is fully retracted, install and align the brake pads (5) to the caliper. 
3. Reposition the caliper/pad assembly to the carrier, install and tighten the caliper to carrier socket head securing bolts (4) to 25-30 Nm (18-22 ft lb)

. Install and fully seat the securing bolt dust covers.

4. Install new sealing washers to the brake hose and securing banjo bolt. Position the hose to the caliper. Fit and fully tighten the brake hose to

caliper securing banjo bolt (1).Tighten to 10-12 Nm (7-8.8 ft lb).

5. Install and fully seat the caliper retaining spring (2).
6. Remove the pipe clamp from the caliper feed hose, connect the brake pad wear sensor multi-plug (3) and reposition the multi-plug into the

retaining clip.

7. Install the wheel/tire assembly, tighten to [1].
8. Bleed the brakes. See: Brake Bleeding/Service and Repair
9. Apply pressure to the brake system and inspect all fittings for leakage.
