Steering Wheel - Replace Leather Bound Steering Wheel With Wood Steering Wheel - Service Action S620

ISSUE:

A limited number of 1995 MY Vanden Plas, XJR, and XJ12 Sedan Range vehicles within the VIN 720427 - 725545 range were incorrectly fitted with
leather steering wheels during production. A wood steering wheel is the correct specification for these vehicles.

NOTE:

Only dealers and vehicles appearing on the attached VIN list are affected by Service Action S620.

Jaguar owners whose vehicles appear on the attached VIN list for Service Action S620 will be notified directly by Jaguar. The owner will be requested to
make an appointment to have the steering wheel replaced. Included with the owner notification is a $100.00 gift certificate redeemable at the dealership
for Jaguar Boutique or accessory items.

A separate Service Action, X620, provides for dealer reimbursement of these gift certificates. Refer to Administration Bulletin 6-38, date of issue 2/95,
for details concerning Service Action X620.

ACTION:

Replace the leather bound steering wheels of the listed 1995 MY Vanden Plas, XJR, and XJ12 vehicles with the correct specification wood steering
wheel for the vehicle. This action should be performed during predelivery or when the owner makes an appointment to have this done.

STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

WARNING:

Observe all safety precautions when working with SRS systems and handling airbags. Refer to the XJ6-XJ12 1995 MY Vehicle Service Manual
Section 15.1 for safety precautions and service information.

1.

Disconnect the battery negative cable and wait one minute for the SRS backup power supply to dissipate its charge.

2.

Remove the two Torx screws securing the airbag module to the steering wheel.

NOTE:

Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees to the left and right to access the airbag mounting screws.

3.

Center the road wheels and engage the steering column lock. Note the position of the steering wheel.

4.

Remove the airbag module and disconnect the electrical connectors.

5.

Remove the existing steering wheel. Install the correct specification wheel for the vehicle. Ensure that the new steering wheel is centered to the
road wheels.

6.

Torque the steering wheel to column nut to 25-36 lb ft (34-49 Nm).

7.

Reconnect and install the airbag. Torque the airbag screws to 3-3.7 lb ft (4-5 Nm).

8.

Connect the battery negative cable and reset the clock.

9.

Start the vehicle and check the operation of the SRS AIRBAG warning light. The warning light will extinguish after a short period indicating that
