Shift Solenoid: Description and Operation
Shift Solenoids 'A' And 'B'
Both solenoids are attached to the valve body and are 'normally open exhaust valves'. The TCM activates the solenoid by grounding through an internal
'quad driver', activates the shift valve and so controls shift pattern.
For solenoid operation see Table 'ACTIVE COMPONENTS FOR EACH GEAR RATIO'. Solenoid 'A' is usually grey in colour, and solenoid 'B' is
usually green.
Variable Force Solenoid/Motor (VFS)
The force motor is attached to the valve body and controls shift quality, dependant upon engine load, based on information received from the TCM.
