Place the probe of an electronic thermometer in the left side footwell outlet duct (Illustration 1). Make sure that the probe is in the air stream and
not touching the duct.

Maintain the engine speed at 2000 rpm with the transmission selector lever in P or N and allow the temperature reading to stabilize.

If the reading is less than 40°C (104°F), the coolant flow is unsatisfactory. Continue with steps 6-9 and then refer to procedure B, Chemical
Flushing Procedure.

If the reading is greater than 40°C (104°F), the coolant flow is satisfactory. Continue with steps 6 -9 and then refer to procedure C, Coolant
Flushing Procedure.

Shut off the engine and move the seat back to original position.

7.

Open the hood and install fender covers.

8.

Remove the filler cap from the coolant header tank.

WARNING:

The cooling system will be pressurized and hot.

Raise the vehicle on a suitable lift. Remove the generator cooling duct.

B. Chemical Flushing Procedure

Applies to all vehicles in the VIN range 001036-005957 for which the Heater Performance Test indicates an unsatisfactory condition.

Consists of the following operations:

Drain and discard existing coolant.

Flush cooling system with plain water.

^

Treat cooling system with part 1 flushing solution (blue label).

^

Flush cooling system with plain water.

^

Treat cooling system with part2 flushing solution (pink label).

^

Flush cooling system with plain water, twice.
