Late 1998 MY Product Update - Running Changes to Vehicle Specification

Issue:

A supercharged model (XKR) has been introduced in other markets except North America. There are a number of changes which carry over to the
normally aspirated version of the vehicle (from VIN 024687) which affect all markets. This Technical Bulletin covers these changes.

GENERAL

In order to accommodate the supercharged engine (plus the new transmission unit) and improve cooling characteristics for the XKR vehicle, it has been
necessary to modify the body shell as well as some components such as heatshields. Many of those, and other, modifications have been carried back from
the supercharged XKR vehicle to normally aspirated vehicles.

BODY

Wind deflectors in front of front wheels have been deleted (as a running change).

HOOD

The hood liner stiffeners have been repositioned.

SUSPENSION

Revised damper characteristics.

ENGINE CONTROL MODULE

An inlet venting tube has been added to the ECM box fan for cooling purposes.

EXHAUST SYSTEM

Mufflers have been modified internally to minimize noise and meet legislation.

ALTERNATOR SUPPRESSOR

For vehicles equipped with the Premium In Car Entertainment Systems the alternator suppressor has been relocated to the front right side of the vehicle,
forward of the wheel. It is attached to a bracket which also provides mountings for the battery backed sounder.

FUEL SYSTEM

The fuel pump is carry over from the 1998 MY XJ Series Sedan. The EVAP purge valve has been relocated from under-hood to the carbon canister
mounting bracket where it is attached by two mounting bolts.
