Installation of Child Seat Tether Mounting Eyes - Dimensions - USA Vehicles

Issue:

This bulletin outlines a procedure for installing the tether eye brackets on all 1997-99 MY XK8 USA market vehicles to permit installation of the child
tether restraint eyelet kit at customer expense. Child tether mounts are standard beginning with 2000 MY XK8 Coupes.

Action:

No openings are present in the rear shelf of these vehicles. As a result the shelf must be removed to cut holes in the desired locations.

1.  Remove the rear shelf (refer to JTIS section 501-05, Removal & Installation S.R.O. 76.67.06.)

2.  Working in the trunk, position the plate against the shelf area of the rear bulkhead so that the studs project through the 4 holes in the rear shelf,

above the fuel tank. From inside the passenger compartment place the tether tower bracket over the 4 studs and torque the nuts to 20 Nm ± 3 Nm.

3. Refer to the dimensions shown in Illustration 1. Place a straight edge against the face of the headrest hump. Make the measurement from the straight
edge.

4. Verify the location(s) the customer desires for the tether mounting(s). Center punch and make a pilot hole. Use a hole saw to cut a 17 mm hole in the
rear shelf to half depth. Then use a sharp utility knife to complete the cutout of the hole to minimize damage to the fabric.

5. Reinstall the rear shelf.

6. Install the tether eye kit in the desired position(s) and torque to 20 Nm ± 3 Nm.
