OIL COOLER NOISE
Some 1985-87 Cherokee-Wagoneer models with 2.1L turbo-diesel engine may have an audible vibration between 1700 and 2000 RPM. This noise may
be caused by the engine oil cooler assembly. New flexible oil cooler lines and a new by-pass valve check ball assembly entered production starting with
VIN 1JXXXXXXXXX105643.
Service correction involves replacing the oil cooler lines and the check ball as described in the following procedure.
PROCEDURE
Removal
1.
Raise the hood.
2.
Disconnect the battery negative cable.

Remove hose (A-Fig. 1) from the air cleaner and turbocharger. Remove hose (B-Fig. 1) from intake manifold and intercooler.
