WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AND TONE WHEELS

One sensor is located at each wheel and they all have the same electrical characteristics. The sensors are mounted to the axle assembly and convert
wheel speed into an A/C electrical signal when the tone wheel teeth pass the sensor. This signal is then transmitted to the anti-lock Electronic
Control Unit (ECU). These A/C signals are processed by the anti-lock ECU into a digital signal for each wheel. The tone wheels serve as a trigger
mechanism for each sensor and are located on the outboard end of each axle shaft (fig. 8).
