Throttle Full Close Switch: Testing and Inspection

ISA Motor/Closed Throttle Switch

NOTE: All testing must be performed with the idle speed actuator (ISA) motor plunger fully extended (just like it would be if the engine were just shut

off).

Start the engine and allow to warm up to normal operating temperature.

2.

Turn the engine off and verify that the ISA plunger fully extends.

3.

If it is necessary to physically extend the plunger, then an adjustment may be required or the ISA could be defective.  For ISA adjustment go
to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.  If after an adjustment the ISA still will not fully extend, then physically extend the plunger and
procede to step 4 to start testing.

Diagnostic Connector Identification

Turn the ignition switch ON and check the voltage across diagnostic connector 2 (D2) pins 13 and 7 (ground).  Voltage should be close to
zero at closed throttle and greater than 2 volts when off the closed throttle position.

If no voltage is present in either position, check for a short to ground in the wire harness or switch.  Test for an open circuit between ECU pin
25 (36-way connector) and the closed throttle switch.

6.

If the voltage is always 2 volts or more, check for an open circuit in the wiring harness between the ECU and switch connector, and between
the switch connector and ground.

7.

Repair any shorts, grounds, or opens in the wiring harness as necessary.
