Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

Shudder After Lockup Engagement

1.

Throttle linkage improperly adjusted.

2.

Engine out of tune.

3.

Exhaust system out of alignment.

4.

Failed locking clutch in converter.

5.

Valve body malfunction.

6.

Plugged cooler, lines or fittings.

7.

Faulty oil pump. 

Stalls or Is Sluggish In Reverse

1.

Faulty input shaft or seal ring.

2.

Sticking switch valve.

3.

Valve body malfunction.

4.

Plugged cooler, lines or fittings.

5.

Faulty oil pump. 

Stays Locked Up at Too Low A Speed In Direct Drive

1.

Failed lockup relay.

2.

Sticking lockup solenoid.

3.

Sticking fail-safe valve.

4.

Sticking lock-up valve.

5.

Sticking switch valve.

6.

Valve body malfunction.

7.

Sticking governor valve.
