SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1984 - 1989 Jeep Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Comanche may exhibit a popping/snapping type noise in the front end. The noise can occur when
driving on rough roads and while turning.
DIAGNOSIS
The popping/snapping noise may be caused by a worn track bar ball stud, or a loose track bar-to-frame rail bracket. With time, the layers of metal at the
bracket mounting point may "iron" themselves together, creating clearance between the bracket and frame rail.

The following repair procedure corrects a loose track bar bracket condition.

SERVICE MANUAL HAVE BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE NOTE THE REVISED TORQUE INFORMATION (FIGURE 1) IN THE
APPROPRIATE MANUALS.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist for inspection.
2.
Carefully inspect the track bar bracket for bolt hole elongation and/or looseness.
