Remove the console.

Deluxe (Long) Console
-

Remove the shift cover attaching screws and remove cover.

Remove the remaining console attaching screws.

Remove the console base and heater duct.

5.

Disconnect the shift control cable and the park lock cable.

6.

Remove the shifter housing attaching screws, remove housing.

7.

Install the new shifter housing, PN 53005470, tighten mounting screws to 15 in.lbs. (21 N-m) torque.

8.

Connect the shift control cable and park lock cable to the housing.

9.

Adjust the cables, as required, per the procedures outlined in the 1989 Jeep Service Manual, Group 21 - Transmission, Page 139.

10.

Install the console.

11.

Install new transmission bezel, PN 55022195, and transfer case bezel.

12.

Install the gearshift lever handle.

13.

Connect the negative battery cable.
