REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Raise and support the front of vehicle.
2.
Remove the right front wheel, caliper, and rotor. Support the caliper out of the way. DO NOT ALLOW THE CALIPER TO HANG BY THE
HYDRAULIC HOSE.
3.
Remove the cotter pin, nut lock, and hub nut.
4.
Remove the three (3) hub-to-knuckle attaching bolts.
5.
Remove the hub assembly and splash shield from the steering knuckle.
6.
Position drain pan under the axle shift motor housing, disconnect vacuum harness, and remove the shift motor and housing assembly.
7.
Remove the axle outer shaft from the housing. USE CARE WHEN REMOVING SHAFT TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO HOUSING SEAL(S).
8.
Position the drain pan under the axle housing cover, remove cover, and drain lubricant.
9.
Remove the axle intermediate shaft retaining clip from the end of the shaft in the differential case (Figure 1).
10.
Remove the intermediate shaft. USE CARE WHEN REMOVING SHAFT TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO HOUSING SEAL(S).
11.
Place the intermediate shaft in a vise with the differential splines facing up. DO NOT CLAMP SHAFT IN A SPLINE AREA.
