Using a hand held grinder, carefully remove the five (5) machining tool marks from the differential end of the intermediate axle shaft (Figure 2).
Clean all grinding debris from the intermediate shaft.

Install the intermediate shaft and shaft retaining clip. USE CARE WHEN INSTALLING SHAFT TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO HOUSING
SEAL(S).
14.
Clean the axle housing and housing cover mating surfaces thoroughly. Apply a thin bead of RTV sealer, PN J8993317, to the housing and cover
and install the cover. Tighten the cover bolts to 20 ft.lbs. (27 N-m) torque.
15.
Install the shift collar and outer axle shaft. USE CARE WHEN INSTALLING SHAFT TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO HOUSING SEAL(S).
16.
Install the axle shift motor housing using new gasket, PN J8133709. Tighten bolts to 101 in.lbs. (11 N-m) torque. Connect the vacuum harness.
17.
Partially fill the hub cavity of the steering knuckle with a chassis lubricant. Install the hub assembly and splash shield. Tighten the three (3) hub
bolts to 75 ft.lbs. (101 N-m) torque.
18.
Install the hub washer and nut. Tighten hub nut to 175 ft.lbs. (237 N-m) torque.
NOTE:
THE HUB NUT MUST BE TORQUED TO ACHIEVE PROPER BEARING(S) PRELOAD.
19.
Install lock nut and cotter pin.
20.
Install the rotor, caliper, and wheel. Tighten wheel lug nuts to 75 ft. lbs. (102 N-m) torque.
21.
Fill the differential housing with 3 pints of gera lubricant, PN 82200046.
22.
Lower vehicle.
