THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle exhibits warm engine surge, light bucking, cold engine lack of power, burst spark knock or engine tapping sounds.
DIAGNOSIS:
Remove the distributor cap, grasp the rotor and using a rotational motion, check the total clockwise/counter-clockwise movement at the rotor tip. If the
rotor tip movement is 5.0 mm (3/16 inches) or more, proceed with the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the distributor drive gear with a revised part, and the camshaft and tappets.
1.
Following the procedure for "Camshaft Removal" outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, remove the existing camshaft and tappets.
2.
Install new camshaft (P/N 53006646) and tappets (P/N J3189883) as outlined in the Service Manual.
3.
Remove the distributor following the procedures listed in the Service Manual.
4.
Replace the distributor drive gear (P/N 83504635). The procedure is listed under the topic "Camshaft Position Sensor - Removal/Installation".
Follow the procedure through step 5 under removal and reverse the procedure for installation.
5.
Install the distributor following the procedure outlined in the Service Manual. Note the Caution for proper indexing of the distributor. (Two
procedures are noted: Engine Not Rotated After Removal and Engine Rotated After Removal).
6.
Change engine oil and filter.
