Fuel Injector: Description and Operation
Fuel Rail Assembly
There are six fuel injectors mounted to the fuel rail, one per cylinder. The fuel injector nozzle ends are positioned into intake manifold openings just
above the intake valve ports of the cylinder head. The injectors are electrically operated, and each injector is connected to a permanent ground. Battery
voltage is supplied to the injectors by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which controls the amount of time each injector is opened. The time each
injector is open is known as pulse width, and the pulse width is controlled by the ECU based upon various sensor inputs.
