Cherokee 2WD L6-242 4.0L VIN M FI (1987)
Ensure that the engine electrical control harness and injector harness connector screw
(30) is tightened to 8 N-m (71 in.lbs) torque.
Assembly
Connect the throttle spring.
Connect the throttle linkage to the throttle arm and the bell crank.
Install the cruise control servo and MAP sensor. Connect the cruise control cable to the locking plate and to the bell crank.
Connect the throttle cable to the locking plate and the bell crank.
Install the accelerator pedal and connect the accelerator cable to the pedal.
Connect the transmission line pressure cable to the throttle arm. Then adjust the cable setting by pushing down on cable adjustment button
(27) and at the same time push the front of cable plunger (28) in towards the adjustment button.
Release the adjustment button and then release the front of the cable housing.
Open the throttle to the maximum wide open position. As the throttle is open, the cable plunger ratchet moves out to the correct adjustment position.
Connect the battery negative cable.
If all mechanical components now operate correctly and the intermittent fast idle still exists, replace the throttle position sensor (TPS). Adjust it using the
M.S. 1700 Tester.
