RADIATOR UPPER HOSE CHAFING
Some 1987 model Cherokee/Wagoneer vehicles equipped with the 4.0L engine and air conditioning, built prior to VIN 1JXXXXXXXXXO29491, may
have the radiator upper hose chafing on the support bracket above the air conditioning compressor.
Service correction involves inspecting the hose condition, modifying the support bracket and replacing the hose if necessary.
PROCEDURE
1.
Check for chafing of the radiator upper hose around the support bracket. If the radiator upper hose (A) is rubbing at the corners of the support
bracket (B), check for chafing and/or perforation of the hose and protective sleeve. Replace the radiator upper hose and sleeve if necessary, then
modify the support bracket as follows.
2.
Move the radiator upper hose up and away from the support bracket. This will allow room for modifying the bracket.
3.
Using a pair of pliers, bend the corners of the support bracket (C) back away from the radiator upper hose as shown. This will leave a smoother,
rounded surface.
4.
Install the radiator upper hose into the support bracket.
