Fig. 31 Install dial indicator & indicator support into screw plug

1.

Loosen screw (C), Fig. 30, and turn injection pump control cable clevis pin (D) 1/4 turn, then disconnect cold start system control assembly.

Rotate crankshaft clockwise 2 revolutions (as viewed from the front of the engine) and align camshaft and injection pump sprocket timing marks
with the timing belt cover indexes, Fig. 26.

Install TDC rod tool Mot. 861 or equivalent, into crankshaft counterweight TDC slot, Fig. 3.

Remove screw plug (1), Fig. 31, located between the 4 high pressure fuel outlets at the rear of the injection pump assembly.

5.

Remove copper washer (2), then install dial indicator support tool Mot. 856 or equivalent into screw plug bore on injection pump assembly.

6.

Insert stem of dial indicator tool Mot. LM, or equivalent, into support tool previously installed on injection pump.

7.

Remove TDC rod tool Mot. 861 from crankshaft counterweight TDC slot.

8.

Slowly turn crankshaft counterclockwise until dial indicator pointer stops moving.

9.

Zero dial indicator pointer.

10.

Slowly turn crankshaft clockwise until TDC rod Mot. 861 can be inserted into TDC slot in crankshaft counterweight.

11.

At TDC, the dial indicator pointer should indicate a piston lift travel distance of .032 inch.

If dial indicator reading obtained is not as specified, proceed as follows:

a. Loosen pump adjustment bolts.
b. Check dial indicator reading.
c. To increase piston lift, rotate pump toward engine and then away from engine.
d. To decrease piston lift, rotate pump away from engine. Always adjust piston lift by rotating pump away from engine. This is the normal

direction of pump rotation. When increasing the piston lift, rotate pump toward the engine until piston lift is greater than the
specified tolerance and then rotate pump away from engine until the correct piston lift is indicated on the dial indicator.

13.

After adjustment is completed, tighten adjustment bolts and remove TDC rod from the crankshaft counterweight.
