NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4.0L ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle exhibits an engine clatter noise during a half throttle driveway acceleration primarily following a cold start up after setting overnight. The noise
disappears within two miles of vehicle operation.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the Scan Tool (DRB II) and appropriate diagnostic procedure manual or the Mopar Diagnostic System, verify that all vehicle engine systems are
functioning as designed. If Trouble Codes (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) are present, record them on the repair order for future reference, and repair as
necessary. If no codes are present and all systems are functioning correctly, proceed with the following repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves replacement of the Powertrain Control Module (Single Board Engine Controller - SBEC) with a revised one.
1.
With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the battery.
2.
Remove the Powertrain Control Module (SBEC) as outlined in the appropriate service manual, and replace the Powertrain Control Module
(SBEC) with the appropriate unit called out in PARTS REQUIRED.
3.
Connect the battery.
