THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4.0L ENGINES, BUILT PRIOR TO JANUARY 12, 1998, (MDH 0112XX)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The fan viscous drive may contact the radiator causing a scraping noise and/or damaging the radiator.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the radiator. If any signs of damage are present indicating that the fan viscous drive has made contact with the radiator, perform the Repair
Procedure.

Cushion - Use with Heavy Duty Cooling
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the radiator and installing a restrictor cushion on vehicles equipped with heavy duty cooling.
WARNING:
ALLOW ADEQUATE TIME FOR THE ENGINE AND COOLING SYSTEM TO COOL PRIOR TO ATTEMPTING THIS REPAIR.
SERVICING THE SYSTEM WHILE THE COOLANT IS HOT CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS BURNS.
1.
Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2.
Remove the radiator cap.
3.
Remove the grill to gain access to the drain petcock. Install an adequate length of 1/4 inch hose to petcock and drain the coolant into a clean
container, saving it for later use.
4.
Disconnect the electric cooling fan.
5.
Remove the cooling fan shroud attaching screws and lift the shroud up, hanging it over the mechanical fan.
6.
Disconnect and plug the transmission cooling lines if equipped. If equipped with a remote transmission cooler, remove the cooler from the bracket.
7.
Disconnect both radiator hoses at the radiator. Special tool number 6094 is required for removal of the constant tension hose clamps.
8.
Mark the position of the hood latch striker and remove the striker.
9.
Remove the upper radiator cross member.
