LIFTGATE CRACKING AT LATCH AREA
Some of the subject vehicles may exhibit stress cracking in the latch area of the liftgate.
A reinforcing plate has been developed to strengthen the latch area of the liftgate and can be installed as follows.
Reinforcing Plate on Liftgate at Latch Area
Location of Screws Attaching the Latch to the Liftgate
PROCEDURE
1.
Prime and colorcoat the reinforcing plate (A).
2.
Remove the screws (B) attaching the latch to the liftgate.
3.
Lightly sand the area of the liftgate that the reinforcing plate will cover. Follow-up the sanding with a scraper that will scratch the surface to
create a good bonding surface for structural adhesive.
4.
Apply structural adhesive (3 M 08101, Kent Industries 20250 or an equivalent product) to the bonding area.
