REPLACEMENT ELECTRIC SIDEVIEW MIRROR GLASS
When an electric sideview mirror glass is damaged, it is no longer necessary to replace the entire mirror assembly. Replacement mirror glass kits, 8983
503 627 (left) and 8983 503 628 (right), are available.
Replace a damaged mirror glass using the following procedure.
Electric Sideview Mirror Glass Assembly
PROCEDURE
WARNING:
Wear protective gloves when removing the damaged mirror glass to prevent possible injury.
1.
Push outer edge of mirror glass into housing.
2.
Grip inner edge of mirror glass and pull out until mirror glass "snaps" out of motor assembly.
3.
A modification can be made to 1984 and 1985 models to increase the mirror travel while the mirror glass is removed.
a.
Remove screws (A).
b.
Remove motor (B) and cable from mirror.
c.
Extend hole (C) 30 mm (1.25 in.) by cutting it out with a sharp knife as shown.
d.
Cut a 10 mm (0.5 in.) wide slot (D) upward from the end of the previously extended hole as shown.
e.
Install motor and cable as shown.
4.
With the pivot and jack screws attached to the replacement glass assembly, position the mirror glass and with palm of hand, firmly push
mirror glass into place until it does not feel "loose."
