Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

1. Remove axle shaft as outlined in "Front Wheel Drive Section."
2. Remove caliper anchor plate from knuckle, then the knuckle to ball joint cotter pins and retaining nuts.
3. Strike steering knuckle with a suitable mallet and remove from vehicle. A split ring seat is located in the bottom end of steering knuckle.

Before installing knuckle, set split ring seat to a depth of 0.206 inch, using tool J-23447 or equivalent. Measure depth to top of ring seat as
shown.

4. Reverse procedure to install. Torque steering knuckle retaining nuts to 75 ft. lbs. and anchor plate retaining bolts to 77 ft. lbs.
