WINDSHIELD WATER LEAKS
Information
When diagnosing a windshield water leak on 1982-83 CJ/Scrambler models, be sure to check the glass-to-weatherstrip seal area and the surface of the
windshield frame pinch weld flange.
Low spots on the flange could allow water to seep between the flange and weatherstrip. Water may also seep between the windshield glass and
weatherstrip, at any point where the weatherstrip and glass do not seal tightly.
Water leaks from these two areas can be eliminated as outlined in the following procedure.
PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove the windshield and weatherstrip as outlined in the 1982 Jeep Technical Service Manual.
2.
Clean the windshield and pinchweld flange thoroughly. Then position the windhshield on the flange and check for low spots. Mark any low spots
with chalk.
3.
Fill any low spots on the flange with Ditzler 999 body filler or equivalent. Sand, spot prime and paint repair areas as necessary.
NOTE:
Follow the body filler application instructions carefully to ensure best results.
4.
Clean the weatherstrip thoroughly and install the weatherstrip and windshield.
5.
Seal the area between the weatherstrip and windshield glass with 3M sealer 08513. Seal all the way around the outside perimeter of the windshield.
NOTE:
Do not wash the vehicle for at least 24 hours after sealing. Also allow the sealer to cure for at least 2 hours at room temperature before
driving the vehicle, especially in rainy weather.
