MODELS WITH SELEC-TRAC
To remove right side axle shaft refer to "Models Less SELEC-TRAC, Except CJ & Scrambler" for procedure. To remove left side axle shaft refer to
"Models Less SELEC-TRAC, Except CJ & Scrambler" steps 1-8, then use following procedure.
1. Disconnect vacuum hoses from axle shift motor, then loosen axle housing cover bolts, allowing lubricant to drain from housing.
2. Remove axle housing cover and shift motor as an assembly.
3. Remove retaining clip from inner axle shaft, then, using a suitable magnet remove inner axle shaft from axle tube. Remove shift collar from
housing.
4. Remove outer axle shaft bearing and seal using Tool J-26941 and J2619-01.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Torque inner wheel bearing adjusting nut to 50 ft. lbs. while rotating wheel to seat bearings, then back nut off 1/6
turn. Install lockwasher with inner tab aligned with keyway in spindle. Turn inner adjusting nut until the peg engages nearest hole in lockwasher.
Install outer locknut and torque to 50 ft. lbs. Install spring retainer with cupped side facing toward center of vehicle.
