Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
All Cherokee, Comanche & Wagoneer models equipped with 4.0L/6-243 engine that have air conditioning and/or heavy duty cooling package are also
equipped with an auxiliary cooling fan in addition to the standard variable speed fan.
The auxiliary cooling fan is controlled by the fan relay located on the left inner fender panel. A switch attached to the radiator outlet tank above the
radiator lower hose senses engine coolant temperature. When the A/C system is engaged or coolant temperature is above 190° the switch closes allowing
current from the ignition switch to flow through the fan relay to ground activating the relay, allowing battery voltage to engage the fan.
