A new heavy duty rear leaf spring for 1986-88 Comanche vehicles with the optional metric ton package is now available for service use. The new spring
entered production on November 9, 1987, and will be the only heavy duty spring supplied for service.
The new springs require new U-bolts and new U-bolt nuts for installation.
The installation of new springs on vehicles built before November 9, 1987 requires the installation of a new design height sensing brake proportioning
valve lever, lever bushing and linkage rod.
Additionally, a new proportioning valve adjustment gauge (67~), tool number 6221, and a new bushing installation tool, number 6224, are required to
correctly position the proportioning valve shaft and to install the lever.
Both tools are part of a new tool set that has been sent to Jeep/Eagle dealers.
A third piece of the tool set is a proportioning valve adjusting gauge (53~), tool number 6213, that is used when adjusting the proportioning valve on
1986-1987 vehicles that are not equipped with the new heavy duty springs.
Replace the rear leaf springs, brake proportioning valve lever and linkage rod using the following repair procedure.
