Insert a wedge between lock shoes and housing to relieve spring tension, then drive tilt lever pin from housing using a suitable punch.

Drive lock shoe pin from housing using suitable punch, then remove lock shoes, springs and wedge installed in previous step.

If necessary, remove upper and lower bearings and races from housing.
29.
Remove steering shaft through upper end of column, then separate upper and lower halves by folding shaft at flexible joint.

Remove support attaching bolts, then the support.
31.
Remove retaining screws, then the shift gate from the steering column support.
32.
Remove retainer and bearing assembly from lower end of column.
33.
Remove shift tube retaining ring and thrust washer.

Using suitable puller, remove shift tube from steering column jacket.

Remove retainer plate from steering column jacket.

On models with column shift, proceed as follows:
a.
Remove wave washer and shift tube spring.
b.
Remove shift bowl from steering column jacket.
