Assembly
1.
Lubricate all bearing, friction and thrust surfaces with suitable grease.

On models with column shift, proceed as follows:
a.
Install shift bowl on steering column jacket.
b.
Install shift tube in lower end of column , then align shift tube key with keyway in shift bowl.
c.
Using suitable tool, press shift bowl onto shift tube.
d.
Install shift tube thrust washer and retainer plate snap ring.
3.
On models with console shift, proceed as follows:
a.
Install key release lever and spring in shroud.
b.
Install shroud assembly on steering column jacket.
c.
Install retainer plate.
d.
Align V-notch on steering column jacket with V-notch on support, then install support on jacket.
e.
Install support attaching screws and torque to 60 inch lbs.
4.
On all models, install lower bearing and retainer in the steering column.
5.
On models with column shift, position shift gate in steering column support, then position steering column support in steering column and torque
attaching screws to 60 inch lbs.
6.
On all models, install remote rod in steering column.
7.
Install dimmer and ignition switches.
8.
Install steering shaft into column.
9.
Install bearings and races if previously removed.
10.
Install lock shoes and springs into housing, align shoes, then install lock shoe pin.
11.
Install release lever and lever spring into housing, insert wedges between housing and lever to relieve spring tension, then install lever pin.
12.
Using suitable punch, gently tap sector shaft into housing.
13.
Position lock sector onto sector shaft, then drive into place until snap ring groove on shaft is exposed. Install snap ring.
14.
Install lock bolt into housing, ensuring bolt properly engages with lock sector cam surface.
15.
Install lock rack, rack preload spring and replacement shim (if applicable) into housing. Square block tooth of rack must engage block tooth of
sector.
16.
Install lock spring and retaining screw, then torque retaining screw to 35 inch lbs.
17.
Align and install assembled housing onto support. Hold lock shoes in disengaged position to facilitate installation.
18.
Align pivot pin holes in housing with holes in support, then install pivot pins. Press downward on housing until pins are engaged in both housing
and support, then fully seat pins with suitable punch.
19.
Install tilt lever into housing, then position housing in full upward tilt position.
20.
Lubricate tilt guide and spring with suitable grease, then install spring onto guide.
21.
Install tilt spring and guide assembly into housing, then engage retainer lock tabs with housing lugs by pressing retainer downward and rotating
counterclockwise.
22.
Remove tilt lever, then install lock cylinder housing.
23.
On models with column shift, install gear selector indicator bracket mounting screw, then install gear selector indicator cover and attaching
screw.
24.
On all models, install key buzzer switch and contacts, then route wire harnesses down column.
25.
Install lock cylinder as follows:
a.
Insert ignition key into lock cylinder.
b.
Hold lock cylinder sleeve and turn key clockwise against stop.
c.
Align tab on cylinder with housing keyway, then insert cylinder into housing.
d.
Rotate counterclockwise until cylinder mates with lock sector, then push inward and install retaining screw, torquing to 35 inch lbs.
26.
Guide turn signal switch harness and connector through column and install switch into housing. Do not install switch retaining screws at this time.
27.
Install knob onto hazard warning switch, then install turn signal switch retaining screws and torque to 35 inch lbs.
