Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair
Vacuum Booster Replacement
1. Pump brake pedal until power brake vacuum is exhausted, as master cylinder booster damage may occur.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then disconnect harness electrical connectors from pedal travel sensor and brake warning switch on combination
valve.
3. Remove air cleaner, hoses, windshield washer reservoir.
4. Position small drain pan under master cylinder reservoir hoses.
5. Remove reservoir hoses to HCU pipe clamps.
6. Remove master cylinder booster mounting stud nuts and master cylinder and combination valve as assembly. Slide cylinder forward and off
booster mounting studs.
7. Disconnect vacuum hose at booster check valve.
8. Inside vehicle, disconnect booster pushrod from brake pedal.
9. Remove booster attaching nuts.
10. Slide booster forward out of dash panel. Tilt booster upward and remove.
11. Reverse procedures to install.
NOTE: Pedal travel sensor plunger cap and colored dot on booster shell must match to ensure proper function.
12. Bleed brake system.
