Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

WARNING:  The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel
system component. 

Note: Tag injector electrical connectors for proper cylinder identification.

NOTE: The fuel rail assembly must be removed to service the fuel injectors. 

Fuel Injector And Fuel Pressure Regulator (Typical)

REMOVAL

1.

Disconnect the negative battery cable, and remove the fuel tank filler cap.

2.

Remove the retainer clips that hold the fuel injectors onto the fuel rail.

3.

Using a rocking motion, separate the fuel injectors from the fuel rail, and discard all the old "O" rings.

INSTALLATION

1.

Install a black "O" ring seal on each injector, before installation into the fuel rail lightly lube each O-ring with clean motor oil.

2.

Install each injector into its position on the fuel rail, and install the retainer clips.

3.

Install a new brown "O" ring onto the exposed end of each fuel injector, before reinstalling the fuel rail.

4.

Connect the negative battery cable, and install the fuel tank filler cap.

5.

Using the DRB II select the Automatic Shut Down  (ASD) Fuel System Test to pressurize fuel system and check for leaks. Refer to Powertrain
Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Procedures

CAUTION: Unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position the fuel pump relay and the ASD relay will remain energized
for 7 minutes by the ASD Fuel System Test.
