V-6 ENGINE SURGE
Some 1986 Jeep Comanche models equipped with V-6 engines and automatic transmissions may have a lean condition that causes a slight pulsation at
moderate cruising speeds (64-88 km/40-55 MPH).
Service correction involves replacing the original EGR valve with the EGR valve used on models equipped with manual transmissions, P/N 8953 002

PROCEDURE
1.
Remove air cleaner assembly.
2.
Disconnect EGR valve vacuum hose.
3.
Remove EGR valve retaining nuts.
4.
Remove EGR valve.
5.
Remove EGR valve gasket.
6.
Clean intake manifold mating surface.
7.
Install new gasket, P/N 323 7589.
8.
Install replacement EGR valve, P/N 8953 002 647.
9.
Install retaining nuts.
10.
Tighten retaining nuts to 18-24 N-m (13- 18 ft-lbs).
11.
Connect vacuum hose to the EGR valve.
12.
Install air cleaner assembly.
