SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Difficulty in removing the ignition key from the steering column when the automatic transmission is put into "PARK" on 1987-1988 and 1989 vehicles
built before 08-15-88.
NOTE:
THIS CONDITION AFFECTS ONLY THE POTENTIAL FOR DIFFICULT KEY REMOVAL -- IT DOES NOT AFFECT "PARK"
POSITION ENGAGEMENT OR RETENTION.
DIAGNOSIS
Inspect the console/shift mechanism areas for any external items that may inhibit the shifter from contacting the park stop located in the shifter housing
assembly. Set parking brake, shift transmission into neutral. Turn the ignition switch to the run position. Shift the transmission into the "PARK" position,
turn the ignition switch to the lock position and remove the key. If the key cannot be removed or if additional effort is required on the shift lever before
the key can be removed, perform the repair procedure.
