SPEEDOMETER CABLE NOISE
Some Comanche models may exhibit a speedometer cable noise and/or speedometer needle flutter. This may be caused by excessive kinks and bends in
the speedometer cable routing.
Use the following procedure to correct speedometer cable noise.

PROCEDURE
1.
Raise the vehicle. Run to verify condition.
2.
Disconnect the speedometer cable at the transfer case (4WD models) or at the transmission (2WD models).
3.
Cut any tie straps that retain the cable to the brake lines at the left frame sill.
4.
Remove the cable from the retaining clamp
(A)
at the left frame sill (Fig. 1).
5.
Lower the vehicle.
6.
Disconnect the speedometer cable at the:
a.
Speedometer head on models without cruise control.
b.
Tach generator on models equipped with cruise control.
NOTE:
On models equipped with cruise control, be sure that the upper speedometer cable is routed straight out of the speedometer head to the tach
generator.
CAUTION: If the upper cable is kinked or routed with sharp bends replace the upper speedometer cable.
7.
Remove the speedometer cable (lower cable on cruise control-equipped models).
8.
Install the replacement speedometer cable:
a.
Through the dash panel grommet and connect the cable end to the speedometer head on models without cruise control,
NOTE: On models without cruise control, when installing the cable to the speedometer head, avoid a routing that would
cause the cable to bend or kink between the speedometer head and the dash panel grommet. This can cause a side load to
the speedometer head and may cause noise.
b.
To the tach generator on models equipped with cruise control.
