Emission Recall # 276T -- Catalytic Converter

Models:

1986 Model Year Jeep Comanche, Cherokee and Wagoneer Equipped With a 2.5L Engine (Federal and California)

The listed model vehicles were built with catalytic converters containing insulation blankets which may cause localized overheating and deformation of
the catalyst can. This could allow the catalyst biscuits to move within the can and eventually deteriorate. As a result, HC, CO and NOx emissions may
exceed regulatory limits.

In addition to this condition, a heating system vacuum hose may become cracked on involved vehicles.

Service correction requires catalytic converter replacement with revised converters (without blanket) and replacement of the heating system vacuum
hose.

Vehicles which have already had the revised replacement catalytic converter installed in service (repairs made after November, 1986) are excluded from
the recall.

Vehicle List

Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a listing of them with this letter, arranged
in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of
involved vehicles.

Each Jeep/Eagle dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter by Compak Mall for use in performing the service on
involved vehicles upon request.

California Recall Completion Label Requirement

There is a California Air Resources Board requirement to affix a label to each vehicle serviced to certify that the emissions recall was completed. A label
is included in each parts package. Refer to the Service Procedure of this letter for application instructions for California vehicles only.

Vehicle, Label, Parts and Scheduling Information

Parts

Parts packages, PN C3940351, are being shipped at dealer cost to all involved dealers for service of affected vehicles. Each dealer to whom involved
vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive enough parts packages to service 25% of those vehicles.
